  Having struggled with pains in my hip and right leg, for well over a year, my GP offered me nerve pain relief for sciatica and sent me for an MRI scan. The scan showed mild stenosis and herniated discs. Having eventually seen an NHS consultant I was offered physiotherapy. This did not help.

  My symptoms worsened, but I was not able to see my NHS consultant again for 18 months due to long waiting lists. In the meantime, I had private physio sessions, several acupuncture sessions and had to take pain relief medication constantly. Nothing seemed to help. I saw an advert about Mr Kalyan and made an appointment to see him. Within a week I was seen by him and sent for another MRI scan and X-Rays on my back and neck. Both of these showed a marked deterioration in my condition and by now i was struggling to walk Mr Kalyan explained my options for treatment very clearly, as well as the risks involved in any procedure.

  Following his recommendations, I decided on an operation for bilateral lumber decompression and under cutting fasciectomy, which Mr Kalyan carried out at the Woodlands Hospital. My recovery was amazing and I now have no pain at all. I am walking better and free from all pain killing medication.

  His aftercare was also excellent, and I was given good advice about how to look after my spine going forward. He is an amazing surgeon, who is kind and considerate and with a good sense of humour. I would highly recommend his services.

Post-surgery he couldn’t have done enough to make sure I was ok & knowing even his office staff were available for any concerns was also very reassuring.   After suffering with back pain for many, many years (and with little help from the NHS) I finally decided that the only way to get any practical help was down the private healthcare route. After doing a lot of research my daughter came across Mr Raman Kalyan and what a ‘find’ he turned out to be. A consultation with him was quickly arranged and I soon realised that I was in the right hands. He made me feel very at ease with his personable character and keen sense of humour and (after an examination) he explained what the problem appeared to be and quickly arranged for an MRI scan to be carried out (and later a CT scan and X-ray). These tests showed that there were very serious problems with my spine and Mr. Kalyan explained that the only solution was surgery. Being 76 years of age and having never even spent a night in hospital in my life this prospect filled me with dread, in fact I was terrified. But Mr. Kalyan fully discussed this with my daughter and myself and we realised that my prospects if I didn’t have the operation didn’t bear thinking about. So, two months ago Mr. Kalyan performed decompression and discectomy surgery on my spine, an operation which, apparently was complicated and serious but I had every faith in my surgeon. I am now without the unbearable excruciating pain, I still have some pain (which I was told would be the case) but this is minimal and can be controlled with painkillers, when necessary, but thanks to Mr. Kalyan I am now heading for a more normal life. I saw Mr Kalyan last week for a post op review and from discussion with him I realised that I now have to make certain lifestyle changes to protect my spine as much as possible. Of course, there could be further problems in the future but at the age of 76 I realised that this would probably be the case, but for the time being I have my life back. I will be grateful to Mr. Kalyan for the rest of my life and thank God for the day my daughter found him. I live alone and my daughter lives hundreds of miles away and he even phoned her himself just after I came out of theatre to tell her I was ok which I thought was lovely.   Mr Kalyan first saw me in March 2022. I was in agony with my lower back all the way down my right leg. Mr Kalyan helped me to understand exactly what was happening in my back and why the pain was there. He gave me an injection to reduce the pain and prescribed medication which, together, enabled me to enjoy my wedding day with significantly less pain!!

  I went for surgery (L5/S1 decompression and right-sided discectomy) in May 2022 and since then my pain has reduced incredibly!   For 3 months I had back pain and sciatica from a herniated lumbar disc. I could not stand or walk for more than 2 or 3 minutes because of the pain. NHS GP treatment was paracetamol and codeine - neither of which helped. I went to Washington Spire to see Mr Kalyan, and the difference was immediate: properly effective pain relief, a good explanation of what was wrong, follow up letter from each consultation, discussion about the best course of action. I decided on the spinal injections, which Mr Kalyan and the radiologist performed impeccably. I have been pain free since then (2 months ago). I can stand up straight, walk, drive, gentle gardening - all the activities I had stopped doing. I realise that this is not the end of my spinal story, but if/when my symptoms return, I will go to see Mr Kalyan again, without hesitation.

  After initially seeing another surgeon at Woodlands hospital who advised he could not help me due to a pre-existing medical condition, I was referred via my private health insurance to Mr Kalyan. I was suffering with severe back and nerve pain, along with sciatica caused by disc protrusion. I was really struggling to walk and had lost hope due to the previous spinal surgeon I had seen and the long NHS waiting lists that meant I was facing up to a year’s wait for treatment. My quality of life was severely impacted due to intense pain and mobility issues.

  From the moment I met Mr Kalyan he listened and questioned me in depth to understand more about my symptoms, pain and challenges completing normal daily tasks.   For 18 months I suffered from horrendous sciatic nerve pain in my right buttock, leg, and foot. After taking lots of different medication and visiting various health practitioners, I conducted some research and found Dr Kalyan!

  I was referred to Mr Kalyan with horrendous back pain, loss of feeling down my left leg, severe pain in my left leg that left me with only 50% strength/use of my leg.
